Raised pilothouse yachts in Calusa's size range typically have very cramped engine rooms due to the yachts low profile. They are often accessed from the after deck or a hatch in the salon. Calusa's engine room is primarily entered through a walk-in door in the master stateroom (with emergency access through an aftewater tight door to the lazarette). The engine room is water tight, to deck level. 8" of sound deadening insulation ensure very little noise is transmitted to the salon above.
Carpeted and Awlgripped, Calusa's engine room is a step above the rest. At its heart are two 660HP Caterpillar 3196 engines. Power is generated from either a 9kw or 16kw Northern Lights generator. Each engine and generator has its own isolated starting bank for reliability. Her house battery bank of eight Lifeline 8D batteries is also housed in the engine room.
Other notable features include a 50ft air hose real (coupled to the boat's central compressor), fuel polisher, crash pump and automatic fire suppression system. All fuel is stored in the engine room in four separate tanks.
