Powered with all Victron chargers and inverters, all systems are monitored through a Victron BMS that can be remotely accessed. There are 7 individual battery banks on board. Each engine and generator, house and bowthruster have separate banks. The DC voltages on board are 12V and 24V. All batteries are Lifeline AGM's.
There are four individual 220V shore power inputs, two at the bow, two astern. Her aft shore power cord is supplied with a Glendenning Cablemaster. While away from the the dock, Calusa's AC power is generated by either 9KW or 16KW Northern Lights Genset. While cruising, her main engines are coupled to two, 5KW cruising generators which can run everything from HVAC to the hot tub. Inverter loads are maxed at 6KW.
Caterpillar 3196 main engines are coupled to a 2:1 ZF gearbox. Each engine is turbo charged and intercooled and produces 660HP. Each CAT is an in line six and electronically controlled with Gendenning units with manual emergence overides.
Calusa will cruise economically at 10 knots at 1,225 RPM and burn only 1G/NM. Her rated 80% load will push her at 14 knots and she will top out at 18 knots.
Calusa holds 350 gallons of fresh water in one stainless steel tank located mid-ship. Water is supplied by two 120V headhunter pumps (for redundancy). All water is sterilized through a UV light before making it way to a fixture.
The lazarette houses the 1,200GPD FCI reverse osmosis water maker.
The hot tub is quite easily one of the simplest systems on board to maintain. The system is powered by 220V and 110V AC with 12VDC lights. The CMU made by Balboa and can be controlled on board or via an app. The water is filtered and O-zone sanitized (no chlorine) and runs through a 4KW electric heater. The tub remains hot ~102F, and full year-round.
When underway, the insulated lids are clamped-down and the water is retained within (like a giant tupperware container) so its ready to jump in when arriving at your destination.
The tub can be filled with fresh or sea water and hold about 330 gallons. There are six jets within and the pump has two speed settings. The jets have an air gap so they can be used with or without bubbles.
All navigational electronics on board are by Furuno. The flybridge has two Furuno TZT3, 15" MFDs, a Furuno FI70, ICOM 510 VHF and a Furuno pilot control. The pilothouse has two Furuno TZT2BB coupled to four Seatronx screens. Two Icom VHFs, SSB, four Fi70s and an NVR screen provide a commanding view all all systems.
Networks include both N2K and ship-wide Ethernet including a high performance Starlink and a Furuno SCX30 Satellite compass. Temperature, atmospheric, barometric and wind speed sensors and the battery management system is all networked through apps and the MFDs. Separate DC microprocessor switches can also activate items such as the Kahlenberg air horns, to the water heater, all from an app.
